Here's the thing about the surface. It's overpriced for shit specs. It's no good as a laptop and windows is no good as a tablet. All of the negatives of each with no noticeable benefit. When you price a Windows more than a Mac you better have something to show for it. Any laptop in its price range is fundamentally better in every way
I bought the surface book 1 week ago. Was using MacbookPro 2015 (!!!) model before… It's fair to say that Surface pro is MUCH slower than 3 year old Mac. Macbook is also much louder. Screen quality is awesome on mac again…
and most importantly, the difference between the track pad is just heavens and earth: Microsoft just doesn't have functions like smooth scrolling. Also, working (typing) on macbook doesn't HURT my hands, while typing on Microsoft does very much so because the keypad is much smaller…
I mean… i'm trying to justify why 3 year old Macbook should suck balls as compared to Surface Pro 2… but.. Macbook is just x2 faster, everything runs smoother (no lags at all), while adding a simple shortcut on the descktop on Surface takes like a second.. I mean c'mon.. it's 2018 …
I can't share a SINGLE good reason to buy this laptop as opposed to the CHEAPER MACBOOK latest model…
I would love to share most of your videos but my friends/relatives on social media are mainly concerned with politics, followed by discussions over religion and societal issues. I know the laptops, smartphones, ipads etc. are no longer esoteric entities even in the third world countries but it is preposterous that most of the people here in Pakistan people i know buy these things on the recommendations of shopkeepers. So, i see it as a disregard to share these things online when people don't even bother to read or watch them. Sure, i will recommend your channel to anyone interested in knowing these things.Until then, i will keep these videos to myself and keep loving them. Thanks.
I whish they would have added thunderbolt 3. Most people say you dont this high data rates and for most use cases they are right. But thunderbold is the only port possible to power more than 4k60hz. Im really looking into buying LGs new 5,120×2,160 plus the SurfaceBook 15inch but im too concerned they wouldn't work together. I dont want to spend $3000 on a Laptop just to find out they missed a common port that is essential to run modern displays one it for saving a few bucks (or because it is confusion if their implemented port could do more than it can now to say it in bullshit M$ words)
stuck between this and the X1 Carbon… decisions, decisions. Pretty burnt up about this recent MBP revision. The butterfly keyboard is criminal and those USB C ports… sheesh. The emperor wears no clothes I guess. Anyways, my main concern is with online security. I haven't been running Windows for 10 years. Have they managed anything comparable to MacOS in terms of virus protection?
I just wish people would do reviews months after buying the machine. I really want to know if the surface book 2 is reliable and will likely last me more than a couple of years. How much it will be to repair the battery when it dies, ect… I know it only came out less than 6 months ago but it's something I worry about because I LOVE the look of this laptop. I know that other peoples worries have been about the coil wire sound and the insides of the machine getting a 1/10 for repairability. (both of which are also mine)
Love the review! You are one of the best reviewers on youtube that is honest and not downplay things that should get way more credit than what it does.
Hey how did you get that joystick to work? I think I have the same one, but I can't get it to work with minecraft, and that's the only pc-game I play. Kind of a pity.
i've been using my Dell 7348 for years and it's still incredibly fast for my work lol, yep it does support Dell pen not as good as SF series but basic tasks are okay, maybe in a million years will i upgrade it to a SF Book One Million ;D 😀 😀 I am here to see how much the world has changed
Got an absolutely amazing deal on a Surface Book 2 15", so I pulled the trigger. Have to say I'm not as wowed with it as I was hoping. For creative types and those that will use the removable screen and pen features a lot, I get why the Surface Book is such an amazing device. For me, I don't really have much use for those features. I primarily got it because of the GTX 1060 for some occasional gaming and for the 3:2 aspect ratio, all in a smaller form factor. But there are definitely some annoyances. For one, the fan on the 15" SB2 (specifically the fan within the screen/tablet portion) has a high pitched whine due to it being so small, which is very annoying when it ramps up. Also, while the touchpad is better than many other Windows laptops, the click when you press down on it is very loud, and I also find that, surprisingly, the tracking on the touchpad doesn't feel as precise as was on my XPS 15. Also, since everything is put together in small areas with glue, you can't easily just go in and replace the battery, RAM, or SSD, something you can do on many other 15" laptops.
I'm on the fence now of whether I will keep the SB2 15", or swap it for an upgraded XPS 15. I would love it if Microsoft came out with a 15" Surface Laptop, as I would immediately be interested in that.
Most likely they would not add a thunderbolt 3 in the new version. They removed it intentionally so you can buy the 199$ tool. Even if they added it, they would remove another essential thing, so you can buy it separately. I personally think, this version is the ultimate version for a few years more to come.
I have the Surface Book 1 with the GPU Dock. I low key wish I waited until the Performance Base models appeared. Even now a Refurbished model with performance base is NOT cheap, though some of the lesser models are.
The 13" model seems a bit too large as a tablet but just right as a laptop or in presentation mode. The new SB2 15" model looks absolutely beastly, but I can see how it would be desirable if the larger touch screen real estate with the touch pen is needed for design applications and such.
If my Surface Book were to go "Pear Shaped" I'd consider another SB as my primary. I've actually considered a lower end Surface Pro as my secondary but I will likely reconsider those plans as the Surface GO seems to be the perfectly sized full featured tablet replacement.
The Surface GO should do non graphic intensive Windows functions quite nicely, and if I need it to act like a Tablet, I'll run an Android emulator like Bluestacks and I'm "Good to Go".
1. Power issue means 5hr 3d renders are a no go, even if OK with overtaxing the battery 2. Lack of Bluetooth connection in keyboard when detached means no hotkeys when drawing on the tablet portion. 3. No thunderbolt means future gaming is limited 4. Have to pay hundreds for Microsoft Complete (just 2 yr accidental damage coverage) indicates Microsoft's real lack of confidence in the build quality and longevity of it.
Please Advice Can we or Should we keep our Laptops plugged in ? or drain its battery to 0% & then charge it i have regular use not much gaming I have Microsoft Surface Book 2
I would like a more accurate review base on what people are complaining. According to Microsoft.com review section people complain about the charger and the SF2 book having problems.
Hey Michael, thank you for this great review, it helped me a lot during my decision process! 🙂 May I ask, do you think the SB2 can handle Cubase? I want to compose orchestral film music and I've heard, at least 32 GB RAM are recommended. However, the SB2 "only" has 16 GB. Do you think it will be a problem? Should I wait until the SB3 will be released (whenever this will be)?
If microsoft can make the SB3 with just a sliiightly larger touchpad, two usb-A’s and two USB-C’s, I don’t see anything remotely close that could touch that laptop. Bonus points if they make it matte black like the pro and laptop.
Can someone help me in here …I got a week to decide.. I am going fr surface book 2 , but with lowest specs fr 1000k … is it worth it ?? Or should I go for some other laptop , its fr laptop use , reading books and stuff + a little bit of gaming in free time + taking notes on laptop .. is it worth it ??
It’s good for stream gaming, podcast, and graphic design? I’m just very picky when dropping 1000 bucks lol. And I feel like every time I buy something, the next newer better version comes out a week later
i mean if you cant afford it you arent the target market its simple as that. Microsoft priced it the way it does for a reason – the surface line is aimed mostly at professionals

Man, your video’s are already my favourite for years now. I really like the way you give us information. Keep on going 🙂
1:44 Now that's product placement.
what background is that at 3:04? 🙂
Could you possibly share a link or method to play Tie Fighter? I really miss that game.
hey Michael, will you review the 12 inch MacBook (2017)?
Late better than never!
If you spill alot of digital ink, you really should get a Wacom EMR device.
Plz make the video of redmi note 4
Sad how that's considered good I/O nowadays…
my only beef with mircosoft surface book 2 and the mircosoft line up is the thunderbolt C! for the price it should been added.

Not sure if I should get the 1TB 13.5“ Version or the 512GB 15“ version…
I'll buy once it supports thunderbolt 3 and egpus for longevitiy

Did he just call a 1060 'discrete graphics' XD.
Your scripting is legendary!
Thanks, I'm saving up to get one. Looks like a good drawing tablet pc. Plus video editing and games.
But, I wish it had Thunderbolt.
I got my sb2 13 i7 and i love it… so worth the price 🤗🤗
like my zenbook
Great review Thank you

Can you do a review of the Lenovo X1 Yoga 3rd Gen with QHD HDR display please?
he gets me interested even though i don't care :b nice voice

I always hated microsoft as a company. But I'm really liking the direction they're taking in recent years.
Now that is a device worth about $1,800 but not $2,000. 90% of noobs will choose the MacBook Pro.
Love the review! You are one of the best reviewers on youtube that is honest and not downplay things that should get way more credit than what it does.
i wish that every gaming laptops or notebooks would be look so simplistic like surface book
12chrome tab?
XD
The quality of your videos and style of delivery are 2nd to none. Well done sir.

Surface Book 3 for Early 2019 (this is my prediction)😅😅😅
Mr mobile thanks so much to send us "Ramadan Kareem". It was so kind from you
Ramadan kareem for you too. Thanks so much

Its a badass machine truly, but yeesh that touch screen has some mad weeble wobbles…
Is there ANYONE who ever takes off the clipboard?
Ugh I just hate windows 10
Sticking with my surface book
third time lucky as they say

Out of all the surface book reviews , this one stands out the most!
The voiceover , filming and the review itself is Everything 👊👌

XPS 15
I'm looking at getting the 15 inch variant in the near future. I have the original SB and that 15 inch screen seems to be the sweet spot for me.
Whats better, a surface book 2 (i5, 8gb ram) or a surface book 1 (i7,16gb)? I'm an animation student :
Lovely review!
I picked up one but not that decked out and its still great
But the 13.5 inch or 15 inch version?
Great laptop
But those bazels are annoying
Awesome review man you are the best
This is the kind of contect that I like. Keep it up!🙋🏿
Most awesome reviews, period.
Brighter than previous ?? Do u really see THAT huge difference in just 20 more nits xDDD

True story, NordVPN is the second VPN I’ve ever used, and I’m genuinely glad to sponsor it.
The Note of laptops
THEY BOTH DON'T HAVE THE USB-C WITH THUNDERBOLT – throw them in the bin. Wait for 2020.
5:37 Windows laptops need to make large trackpads like Macbooks. It really makes a big difference
&hhy
I'm loving my surface book 2 15"
A fully decked out surface with the pen is still half of the price of a MacBook Pro lol

"Pro things…" – Yeti USB Mic.
Just got mine. 15” 1TB and I absolutely love it.
Is it still cracking the display from closing it???
Wish the screen had a hinge like the pros so when u use it as a tablet u can have it stand up.
Otherwise the usability of the tablet mode is less useful
Can someone help me in here …I got a week to decide.. I am going fr surface book 2 , but with lowest specs fr 1000k … is it worth it ?? Nice, Will you make a revie video on dell inspiron 14 5480 i3 laptop
Only PCs I'd buy at the point are the HP Spectre X360, ThinkPad X1 Carbon, and Surface Book! Great video!
i mean if you cant afford it you arent the target market its simple as that. Microsoft priced it the way it does for a reason – the surface line is aimed mostly at professionals
TONY STARK!!!!
has anyone tried putting a version 1 surface book keyboard onto a surface 2 base?
3:17 you have written gill bates right
yoinkds
This is a better device than the competition and I would recommend this over a cheap Lenovo. It is worth the extra cost.
What’s the small docking station you’re using? Does it charge well over usb c?
